SWAPNA ROY CHOUDHURY, an alumnus
from Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, the premier
art college in India graduated with commercial art in 1976.
Consequent on her passing out she was involved in making art
works, murals and frescos for many prestigious organisations
in the country.
Since 1990 onwards she started holding her solo exhibitions
and has held number of exhibitions in prestigious venues
in Mumbai, India. She has been regularly holding exhibition.
Her paintings are mostly in water colours, though she has
exhibited oils in some of these venues. Her theme of painting
is generally indian, rural based, where she expresses herself
in the depiction of rural lives, especially women.
A lack of identity which exists amongst all of us and particularly
with the rural lot, presents lives as a 2 dimensional face
which permits only what it appears as. Swapna's paintings
breaks this face in an attempt to nullify the distance and
its complexities.
Swapna becomes not a voyeur but a participant, making room,
just as characters, the landscape, the frame do to this
"ENTIRETY". The essence of such intrinsic placement
translates themselves into bright colors, tones and a memory
like "STILLNESS". In her attempt to express herself
in such depictions, these depictions translate themselves
into vibrant colourful paintings.Along with the vibrancy,
there is a pause, or a brief moment of silence, which she
captures which allocates the surface needed for her to draw
the viewers into this "WORLD" she constructs.
Through her numerous solo exhibitions she has been able
to make a mark with all those who have seen her paintings,
and her collections are found, spread all over the world.
She is looking for International
promoter.
